Paris Innovation Plan Information:
As part of our innovation, Paris Elementary is now a member of the International Studies Schools Network (ISSN) which is a professional community of K–12 schools around the United States. ISSN schools integrate global education across the curriculum through a unique combination of professional development, globally-focused curriculum tools, project-based learning, and authentic assessment. ISSN schools enjoy higher levels of student engagement and academic achievement.
In June, a group of teachers and coaches from Paris attended the ISSN Institute in Cleveland, Ohio. They were able to connect with other schools around the country that are implementing a global curriculum and visited Jackson High School to learn about their success as an ISSN school. They also attended workshops to learn about the four domains of global competence: Investigate the World, Recognize Perspectives, Communicate Ideas and Take Action. In August, the Aurora Action Zone Schools gathered at Central High School for two days to begin developing instructional modules that teach global competence.
As 2016-17 is our first year of implementing global instruction, all grade levels are beginning with one module. The theme of the module is Self, Identity, Voice. Teachers may begin the module between now and October. To learn more about ISSN and global competence, please talk to your students and teachers and attend our parent workshop at 8:15 on September 27.
